I wrote a detailed checklist on how to upload your show to the Internet Archive so that it is most likely to still exist and retain its context a decade from now. But I get it, it's a lot. So this is my backup checklist:
Getting stuff on the Internet Archive fast for tired AP producers
- Create an account on the Internet Archive
- Go to archive.org and click “Sign Up” in the top right corner. Sign up.
- Prepare the first episode of your show
- Find the episode on your computer. Redownload it from YouTube. Whatever. Just find the file.
- Rename the file ShowName-# (for episode number) or ShowName-YYYYMMDD, or create your own naming convention — the files will be sorted alphabetically, so make sure you name them so that they go in the right order eventually.
- Upload your first episode
- Go to the upload page
- Drag and drop the first episode of your show
- Fill in the Required Information (and some of the Recommended Information) as follows:
- Item Title: [the name of your show, not the episode]
- Page URL: [the name of your show, not the episode]
- Description: [copy your description from YouTube or your podcast]
- Subject tags: [add these, all lowercase: actual play, ttrpg, tabletop roleplaying games] [add additional tags that relate the theme, genre and audience for your show, such as LGBTQ, horror, scifi, fantasy adventure]
- Collection: Community movies
- Creator: [your name]
- Date: [the year the show was originally released]
- Wait
- Sometimes things go wrong on upload, especially if it's a big file. Babysit the upload to make sure it actually uploads.
- Let me know
- DM me on BlueSky or email me at annethegnome@gmail.com
- Celebrate!
- You did it! HECK YEAH IM PROUD OF YOU!
- Keep this party rolling
- Add more files by going to the record, click "edit" on the left side, click "I want to change the files in my item.", then add your additional files.
- When you're ready, go back to the Internet Archive Checklist and complete the other steps
